Presentation and Key Figures
Midi-Pyrenees is the European leader in design and manufacture of space systems and applications.
Centered around CNES (French space agency - Toulouse Space Center) and the two prime contractors in European space systems, Alcatel Alenia Space and EADS Astrium, a one-of-a-kind dynamic has grow up, based on the strength of an industrial and service sector of over 150 suppliers and a dense network of engineering schools, universities and research laboratories.
Today, Midi-Pyrenees mobilizes its resources for the development of new markets, telecommunications, localization, navigation and Earth observation services.
Midi-Pyrenees, it's :
- More than 8,600 jobs in space construction companies and suppliers
- 1,000 jobs in services firms
- 2,400 workers in the CNES and its subsidiaries (SPOT Image, SCOT, CLS...)
On the whole, Midi-Pyrenees gathers 12,000 jobs that represent half of the employees of the space sector in France and a quarter of those working in Europe.

Aerospace Valley
Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine have received the Competitiveness Cluster label for
"Aeronautics, Space and Embedded Systems"
With over than 1,300 establishments, 94,000 industrial jobs and 8,500 people employed in research, Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine offer the leading employment pool in Europe in the fields of aeronautics, space and embedded systems.
By combining their strengths through the creation of Aerospace Valley , these two regions have received the government's quality label as Competitiveness Cluster including the honorary designation "world cluster", under a single governing body.
Numerous cooperative projects have been defined, along with pivotal projects including :
- the Aerospace Campus in Toulouse
- the Dismantling Center for end of life cycle aircraft in Tarbes
- the copters maintenance center in Montauban : HELIMaintenance
- the INRIA ICT skills center in Bordeaux |
